Shrine Club: Growth, Service, and the Road Ahead
Emirat Shriners is proud to share an update on our continued and growing relationship with the Alasia Shrine Club of Cyprus, a group that has demonstrated exceptional dedication to the Shrine mission, strong organizational development, and an unwavering commitment to Shriners Children’s. As many of you may have heard, the Alasia Shrine Club has petitioned to become its
own independent Shrine Temple. Emirat Shriners fully supports their efforts and views
this as a natural next step that reflects the Club’s sustained growth, maturity, and
expanding charitable footprint in the region. We are proud of what they have built, and
we are excited to stand beside them as they establish themselves in the years ahead.
A Remarkable Year of Growth and Fellowship
One of the most memorable highlights of 2025 were the ceremonials held in October
and November in Nicosia, where we created 55 New Nobles bringing their toal to 100
Nobles. These events were exceptionally well organized and reflected the momentum
and enthusiasm of the Shrine in Cyprus. The October 25th ceremonial, hosted at the
George & Thelma Paraskevaides Foundation, was a full day of fellowship and initiation,
followed by the Clubs annual meeting and elections.
The success of these ceremonials was a clear testament to the dedication of the Alasia
leadership and membership, previously under the strong leadership of Noble Kypros
Panaretos and after elections now led by Noble Eleftherios Kanellos, whose steady
leadership will guide them forward for the years to come!
Supporting Shriners Children’s in Cyprus
Beyond membership growth, the Alasia Shrine Club plays a visible and meaningful role in
supporting one of Shriners Children’s longest-running international outreach efforts. These efforts are hosted and arranged by the George & Thelma Paraskevaides Foundation!
For more than 40 years, Shriners Children’s physicians and clinical teams have traveled
to Cyprus to provide specialized orthopedic care to children with conditions affecting
the limbs and spine. Each year the doctors travel with a support team toin order to help
hundreds of patients at the Nicosia General Hospital, including families traveling from
Cyprus and neighboring countries such as Egypt, Lebanon, Greece, and Turkey.
Over the decades, this outreach has:
Provided care to more than 16,000 children locally
Enabled over 4,000 children to travel to the United States for advanced treatment
Built lifelong relationships between families and the Shrine mission
The Alasia Shrine Club’s local involvement, alongside the George & Thelma
Paraskevaides Foundation, has been instrumental in supporting clinic success,
strengthening trust with families, and providing continuity year after year.
Charity, Community, and Public Engagement
Alasia’s commitment to the mission extends well beyond the clinic. In December 2025,
the Club hosted the “Love to the Rescue” Charity Dinner in Nicosia, an inspiring
evening held under the auspices of the Ministry of Health. Events like this strengthen
public awareness, support fundraising, and show the community what the Shrine stands
for!
Looking Ahead Together
As Alasia continues forward on its path toward becoming an independent Shrine
Temple, Emirat looks forward to continued partnership, collaboration, and mutual
support in the coming years. Their growth is something to be proud of, and their
progress strengthens the Shrine fraternity as a whole.
We thank the Nobles of Alasia for their hospitality, hard work, and friendship and we
look forward to many more charitable efforts and moments of fellowship as they
establish themselves and expand the reach of the Shrine in Cyprus.
